About Robert and Rebecca
Rebecca is an experienced primary school teacher with a decade of teaching practice. She holds an HNC in Early Education and Childcare, a BA in Childhood Studies, and a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary). Teaching has always been her vocation, and she has long aspired to work with children and young people. Before qualifying as a primary teacher through her PGDE, she spent a year as a nursery nurse.
Rebecca has a strong passion for drama, dance, and performing arts, having participated in numerous theatre and dance groups such as Razzmatazz, Crackerjacks, Attitude Dance Group, and MADCAP during her formative years. In her role as a teacher, she has delivered dance, music, and drama within the curriculum across various age groups. Additionally, Rebecca has contributed to volunteering by leading camping trips, overnight trips both locally, throughout the UK, and internationally.
Robert operates his own window cleaning business, enjoying daily interactions with members of the community. He has extensive experience working with young people, both professionally and through volunteering. His roles have included classroom assistant, working with children from Nursery to P7, and playground supervisor. In these positions, he facilitated team-building sessions and promoted outdoor learning experiences.
Beginning his volunteer work at age 13, Robert has dedicated approximately 20 years to supporting children and young people. He has produced and directed ten major productions at Lockerbie Academy and possesses significant expertise in outdoor activities including camping, bushcraft, hiking, and international expeditions. At fourteen, he undertook a six-week expedition to South Africa, acquiring numerous new skills and invaluable experience.
Together, Robert and Rebecca have two children, Arlo and Charlotte, and a pet dog named Leia. Their children have accompanied them throughout their charity work, gaining valuable insights that may inspire them to continue the family’s legacy!
Driven by their shared commitment to volunteering for youth, Robert and Rebecca founded the RH Youth Organisation in November 2019. Rebecca established a Theatre Group, while Robert launched an Outdoor & Adventure Group, aiming to serve Lockerbie and the surrounding areas. Since its inception, the organisation has expanded considerably, forging partnerships with community groups, businesses and funders, and even engaging with very important people-including the First Minister of Scotland.
The couple take considerable pride in witnessing the achievements and confidence building among young people involved in the organisation. The success of the charity relies on the dedication of its remarkable volunteers and the guidance of the RHYO Board. Under this leadership, the organisation has delivered events, special projects such as a food bank, support for care homes and local schools, and community outreach across Dumfries and Galloway.
Looking ahead, Robert and Rebecca hope to welcome additional volunteers to facilitate the organisation’s expansion into Annandale and Eskdale. Over recent years, the RH Youth Organisation has demonstrated its significance within the community, providing essential support and opportunities for children and young people.
They extend their sincere thanks to all who continue to support the RH Youth Organisation and look forward to many more years of making a positive impact.
